What are hard wax beads?
Hard wax beads (or wax pellets) are hot wax in the form of small grains. You only melt the amount you need, in a wax warmer or a bain-marie, then spread it with a spatula over the area to wax.
As it cools, the wax sets around the hairs: you then pull it off by hand, in one quick movement, without strips. This is the stripless (or peel-off) wax technique widely used in beauty salons.
Why choose wax beads for sensitive skin?
- It grips the hair, not the skin : the wax wraps around each hair and removes it from the root while pulling less on the skin, for more comfortable waxing.
- Low temperature (≈ 60 °C) : it is applied cooler than a rosin-based wax, which limits the feeling of heat and redness.
- Hypoallergenic, rosin-free and fragrance-free : the formula leaves out two ingredients known to irritate reactive skin.
- For every area : legs and underarms, but also delicate areas such as a full bikini (Brazilian) and the face (upper lip, eyebrows).
- Developed with professionals : a formula designed with beauty professionals, for salon-quality results.
Which size of wax beads should you choose?
- 400 g : to discover stripless wax or for targeted areas (face, underarms, bikini). Comes with 10 wooden spatulas.
- 800 g : the ideal size for regular use or large areas such as the legs.
- Pack of 4 × 800 g (3.2 kg) : for intensive use, better value than buying single tubs.
- Complete kit : a wax warmer with adjustable thermostat and silicone bowl, 400 g of beads, 30 wooden spatulas, a pre-wax lotion and an after-wax oil. Everything you need to get started.
The beads come in three shades: pink, white and green.
How to use hard wax beads
- Melt : heat the beads in the wax warmer until they reach a creamy texture, then set it to about 60 °C.
- Test : place a small dab of wax on the inside of your wrist to check the temperature.
- Apply : spread an even layer with the spatula, in the direction of hair growth, keeping one edge slightly thicker so you can grip it.
- Remove : after 10 to 20 seconds, once the wax is no longer tacky, pull it off in one quick movement against the direction of hair growth, holding the skin taut.
Frequently asked questions about wax beads
Do you need a wax warmer to use wax beads?
A wax warmer is recommended : it melts the beads evenly and keeps the wax at the right temperature throughout the session. You can also melt them in a bain-marie, keeping an eye on the temperature and always testing it on your wrist before applying.
How long does it take to melt the beads?
With the wax warmer from the My Skin Wax kit, allow about 10 minutes for 100 g of beads. The time varies with the quantity and the device used.
Is waxing with hard wax beads less painful?
Stripless wax grips the hair rather than the skin, so removal is generally better tolerated than with strip wax, especially on sensitive areas. The sensation varies from person to person and often decreases over successive sessions.
How long do the results last?
On average 3 to 4 weeks : the wax removes the hair with its root, which takes several weeks to grow back. Over successive sessions, regrowth often becomes finer and sparser.
How long should the hair be?
About 3 to 5 millimetres (the size of a grain of rice). Shorter, the wax grips poorly; longer, trim the hair first with a trimmer or scissors.
